Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing live stream, Who really owns ‘Hacienda Binay’?

Manila, Philippines – The Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee being headed by senator Aquilino Pimentel III continues its probe on the alleged overpriced of the Makati City Parking Building II that is now diverted into the 350-hectare land popularly-known as “hacienda Binay.”

Former Makati City vice mayor Ernesto Mercado’s exposing the 350-hectare farmland created more questions on the Vice President Jejomar Binay’s ability to hide his ill-gotten wealth.

Mercado had alleged that, in exchange for favoring certain companies, Binay got a 13% kickback from Makati projects. The money would be split into 3 – for the Binay family, for Binay’s own use, and for his campaign funds. The former vice mayor said he personally delivered Binay’s alleged commissions.

Mercado also had alleged that, funds and personnel of Makati City were used for the development of the 350-hectare land in Rosario town, Batangas province.

Businessman Antonio Tiu, who claimed to own the farm, couldn’t provide supporting ownership evidence to the blue ribbon committee last week. Tiu is expected to show documents to the committee on Thursday’s hearing. Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Alan Peter Cayeton believe that Tiu is just a dummy of the Binay’s to hide the VP’s wealth.

Furthermore, expected to appear are some of the owners of the land, who claimed to have sold their lands to then-Vice Mayor Binay.

In the current development, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, not the sub-committee, had invited the Vice President to appear in the November 6 hearing. This hearing is to be led by senator Teofisto Guingona.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing live stream is available here. The online streaming starts at 9:00 AM Thursday, October 30.

Will there be new revelations in today’s hearing? Will senators Trillanes and Cayetano disclose substantial evidence to show that the property in Batangas is owned by Binay?
