Typhoon Ruby (HAGUPIT) update, PAGASA weather bureau website is down

Manila, Philippines – Typhoon Ruby (international name: Hagupit) has intensified as it heads to the Philippines, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph, PAGASA said on Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the new weather update at 5:00 PM on typhoon Ruby which was located 720 km east of Surigao City. Ruby also slowed down, moving west northwest at 15 kph from 30 kph.

While PAGASA is doing its best to supply the necessary information about typhoon Ruby, the official website http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/ is down around 7:00 PM Thursday, and a message on its homepage saying “This site is currently having some technical problem and we are doing everything to restore it as soon as possible. Please bear with us.”

Because of the current speed, it is expected to hit landfall in Northern or Eastern Samar on Saturday afternoon.

PAGASA already has given typhoon warning signal No. 2 to the following areas: Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Biliran, Dinagat Island and Siargao Island.

Signal No. 1 warning is raised on Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Ticao Island, Northern Cebu, Bantayan Island, Camotes Island, Bohol, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Camiguin Island and Agusan del Norte.
