Junjun Binay, 6 Makati City officials no show to face contempt in the Senate investigation

After the holiday season and the Papal visit, the Senate of the Philippines starts working and the Senate blue ribbon subcommitte continues its job probing the Makati City Parking Building, including all the corruption of then-Mayor Jejomar Binay, now the current Vice President.

On Tuesday, the Senate blue ribbon subcommitee headed by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III has signed a recommendation to the mother committee, the Senate blue ribbon committee, being led by Teofisto Guingona III, to cite seven officials of the Makati City government in contempt, which is punishable ranging from a simple warning, censure or arrest, according to report by Inquirer.

Included in the list of the seven officials is no other than Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Jun-Jun” Binay, who continualy refused to attend its hearing into the allegedly overpriced Makait City Parking Building II.

Binay attended the first hearing but he backed out in the succeeding hearings in which he was invited for deeper questions on the allegation.

The Pimentel did not name names, Guingona’s offis confirmed that Binay was among the seven officials to be cited in contempt, according to the same report.

Engineer Line Dela Pena, Atty. Eleno Mendoza, Professor Tomas Lopez, Ms. Eduviges Ebeng Baloloy, Marjorie de Veyra and Bernadette Portallano are the other names recommended to be cited in contempt.

The next hearing of the alleged overpricing of the 11-storey new Makati Hall 2 Parking Building and the 22-storey Makati City Hall Building and related anomalies is scheduled on January 22 at 9:00 AM at the Session Hall 2/F Left Wing, Senate, according to Senate website.

Senators Pimentel, Antonio Trillanes IV and Alan Peter Cayetano will continue the blue ribbon subcommittee investigation on the alleged anomalies in Makati City.
