Mayweather-Pacquiao could be highest Pay-Per-View buys of all time

The Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao May 2 fight provides numbers of areas for fans and experts to discuss. One of the areas being talked about is how many Pay-per-view buys would this fight generate.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are the No. 1 and No. 2 most marketable boxers in the last eight years. They are bringing millions through Pay-Per-View alone.

The record in Pay-Per-View history was the fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007, which garnered 2.4 million household Pay-Per-View buys.

The boxing fans around the world has waited for five years just for the to camps to make the deal. Mayweather and Pacquiao will unify their welterweight world titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2.

It is being reported that this fight can ammass $400 million and over. In pay-per-view alone, it is expected to have a price of $89.95 and additional $10 for high definition.

“I am glad my decision to meet with Manny and discuss making this fight happen helped get the deal done,” Mayweather said, referring to a chance Jan. 27 meeting with Pacquiao at a Miami Heat game followed by a private discussion after the game.

One of the major obstacles in the negotiation was centered on the boxers’ television deal. Mayweather has an exlusive contract with Showtime while Pacquiao’s with HBO. Both Showtime and HBO had met to make this boxing fight to happen.

Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) has resurrected his career after he was knocked down by Manuel Marquez in 2012. He is back winning three fights in a row (Rios, Bradley II, Algieri).

Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) has to risk his undefeated status against Pacquiao. However, Mayweather knows that Pacquiao is no longer at his peak. Mayweather also has a 60/40 split on the money revenue for this fight.
