NLEX trounces Blackwater Elite through Thornton’s 39 points

Manila, Philippines – With purpose to win, import Al Thornton played exceptional to help the NLEX Road Warriors in trouncing Blackwater, 106-79, to clinch its first victory in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Tuesday night.

Thornton scored a whopping 39 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead NLEX. Thornton also was shooting 14-for-20 from the field and hitting four 3-pointers. Thornton couldn’t be stopped by the defense of Blackwater.

After dropping the first three games, NLEX found comfort in getting the ball into the hands of Thornton. It was a win in which NLEX dominated the expansion team.

Blackwater couldn’t match up the offensive firepower of NLEX despite riding in morale booster victory over San Miguel the previous game.

The Road Warriors even reached the lead into 35 points as the game went on lopsidedly until the end.

NLEX had a 24-11 advantage after the first quarter, 14 coming from Thornton. The Road Warriors stayed sharp in the second quarter by having a 14-2 spurt that surprised Blackwater Elite.

Marc Cardona and Borgie Hermida hit three-pointers to let the game loose for the Road Warriors. The first half ended with a 55-27 score.

Thornton had never satisfied in the third quarter as he scored 12 points, including a 3-pointer before the buzzer sending the score to 84-49.

Bryan Faundo led the Blackwater Elite in scoring with 17 points while Marcus Douthit posted only 15 points.
