Thousands run as MILF-BIFF continue clashes

Manila, Philippines – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and (Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) continues to clash in the boundary of Maguindano and North Cotabato that forced about 1,000 families to flee from their houses, according to the Department of National Defense.

Families were helped and evacuated from the areas of the gun battle specifically in Barangay Kabalasan, Pikit, North Cotabato and in Pagalungan, Maguindanao.

Contrary to the assumption of many that MILF and BIFF were friends, helping each other in killing the 44 SAF commandos in the Mamasapano, they are now showing rivalry.

AFT public affairs office Lt. Col Harold Cabunoc said the civilians voluntarily left their homes to avoid being the casualties of the battle that started last week. Furthermore, the families fear that it would likely spread.

According to Cabunoc, the fight was started by a clan feud between Commander Kagi Karialan of the BIFF and Commander Jack Abbas of the MILF.

Cabunoc added that the displaced families were in two evacuation centers in Pagalungan and Pikit where the local governments gave them relief items and the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion was providing security.
