Rain or Shine overpowers Talk ‘N Text in Game 6

Manila, Philippines – Import Wayne Chism posted 18 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 101-93, victory over Talk ‘N Text on Sunday in Game 6 of their best-of-seven Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

Chism was part of the strong and cohesive performance of Rain or Shine that brought the lead into 16 points in the third quarter. With their back against the wall, the Elasto Painters forced a Game Seven which will be played on Wednesday.

The Elasto Painters led, 54-42, at halftime through the balance offense of Raymond Almazan and Paul Lee with 11 points apiece in second quarter. Almazan finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to compliment the performance of Chism.

Aside from Almazan, Lee contributed 16 points and five assist for the Elasto Painters. He was fouled several times but continued to drive to the basket.

The Tropang Texters played with a strong third quarter performance, 29-22, cutting the lead into five. Ranidel scored 11 points in the quarter, finishing 21 points in the game.

However, the Elasto Painters pulled off a 7-0 spurt through a three-pointer from Gabe Norwood, layup from Chris Tiu and a slam for Chism.

Larry Fonacier drilled in a back-to-back triple to cut the lead into four, 97-93, 17 seconds left that put a scare on Rain or Shine. But Chism made his free throws to clinch Game 6 for the ROS. Jason Castro scored 17 points for the Tropang Texters. Meanwhile, import Ivan Johnson scored only six points.

Rain or Shine vs Talk ‘N Text Game 7 is set on Wednesday. This will be the 24th Game Seven in PBA finals history, according to PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon III.
