Typhoon “bagyong” Dodong approches Philippines, maintains strength, destruction looms

Manila, Philippines – Typhoon Dodong continues its move to the archipelago of the Philippines, targeting millions of people in Luzon. With storm signal warning issued to some provinces, the country is in the mode of preparation.

Weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that typhoon “bagyong” Dodong has slowed down but the strength remains.

PAGASA said in the 5:00 weather bulletin that estimated rainfall and amount is heave to intense within 300 km diameter of the typhoon.

“Dodong” is expected to make a landfall over Isabela-Cagayan Area on Sunday early morning.

At 4:00 AM today, the center of Typhoon “DODONG” was located based on Virac Doppler Radar and all available data at 290 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (13.8°N, 126.9°E) with maximum winds of 160 Kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 Kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph.

Signal number 2 is up in Catanduanes, Polillo Island, Aurora, Isabela and Quirino.

Signal number 1 is raised in Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Quezon, Cagayan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Apayao, Benguet and Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.

In April, the Philippines was also struck by typhoon Chedeng, but it didn’t bring that much damage because it weakened before landfall. Dodong is a different typhoon and it could carry destructions to the country.
