Chicago Bulls Rumors: Jimmy Butler intends to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers?

Jimmy Butler will become a restricted free agent when July 1 comes. According to LA Daily News, Butler desires to travel to the West to play for the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Chicago forward Jimmy Butler hopes to take his talents elsewhere and take advantage of the new television deal after his career year coincided with Tom Thibodeau’s firing and Derrick Rose’s chemistry issues. Althought Butler wants to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, according to a league source familiar with his thinking, the Bulls are expected to match any offer for the restricted free agent.”

Butler’s played extremely great last season and he showed that he could be a leader of the team when Derrick Rose was sidelined. Butler was the leading scorer of the Bulls and he did just the right thing to elevate his worth in the NBA.

While Butler wants to get out of Chicago, still the Bulls can retain him by matching the offer of other teams in the NBA free agency. Clearly, the Bulls are willing to offer Butler a big contract that is far beyond the nearest team that would try to lure him. Rumors have swirled that Butler wanted a shorter term deal so that he could cash in after just a year or two as the league’s salary cap skyrockets, just like the way other players are intensely looking at it.

Butler averages 20 points in his breakout year, and he is expected to be the No. 2 option with the Bulls. If Butler plays with the Lakers, he will have to jell with Kobe Bryant and De’Angelo Williams, including the bigman that the Lakers are chasing in the free agency market.
