Golden State Warriors capture NBA Finals title, Andre Iguodala wins MVP

Andre Iguodala and Stephen Curry have 25 points apiece to lead the Golden State Warriors in a 105-97 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 6 to win the NBA Championship in a hotly-contested series.

Stephen Curry posted 25 points, six rebounds and eight assists to keep the Warriors playing with intensity with a small line up. Iguodala had 25 points, five rebounds and five assists while guarding the best athlete in the NBA LeBron James.

Draymond Green had a monster game with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, capping a triple-double. Sean Livingstone added 10 points while Harrison Barnes posted nine points.

Meanwhile, LeBron James posted another big game with 32 points, 18 points and eight assists but it was not enough to bring force a Game 7. Tristan Thompson posted 15 points and 13 rebounds while Timofey Mozgov had 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Cavs went on with a tall line up. JR Smith had 19 points to compliment those three Cavaliers.

The Warriors started strong in the first quarter by leading 28-15 until the Cavaliers rallied back to bring the game into 45-43. The Cavaliers even took the lead in the third quarter but the Warriors bounced back and they never looked back to control the game until the end.

Iguodala won the Bill Russell MVP trophy.

Preview:

The Golden State Warriors seek to clinch the NBA Finals title as they face the Cleveland Cavs in Game 6 at 9:00 PM ET at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Stephen Curry and the Warriors will keep on playing small ball in Game 6 as the Cavaliers have no answer in Game 4 and Game 5. With the speed of the Warriors by removing Andrew Bogut in the roster and inserting Andre Iguodala, the Warriors are now just a game away of becoming the NBA Champions.

Curry scored 37 points, in which 17 in the fourth quarter, while Iguodala made those precious shots at the crucial stage of Game 5 to bring the Warriors in the best position to close out the series. Surely, the Warriors will play on the road but they won Game 4 at Quicken Loans Arena. Curry provided everything that the Warriors needed in Game 5. Though he was treated for dehydration, this season’s MVP is expected to start for the Warriors.

”We fought hard all year and put ourselves in good position now to go to Cleveland and hopefully close it out,” Curry said. ”We’re confident.”

Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes all-out game is needed for the Warriors to dismantle the defense of the Cavs. Outside Curry and Klay Thompson, Green and Barnes should be able to handle the pressure of playing against the crowd in Cleveland.

The Warriors won the battle for points in the paint (38-34), second-chance points (15-13), fastbreak point (18-3), and shot 48 percent from the field. When the tempo of the game goes to the warriors, they would be able to win the game.

LeBron James believes that the series is not over. Though James posted 40 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists, the Cavaliers couldn’t capitalize because of the lack of depth. James averages 36.6 points, 12.5 rebounds and 8.8 assists in the NBA Finals. He also averages 45 minutes per game.

While James is playing smart by making those big statistical numbers, the Cavaliers supporting casts are short-handed. After JR Smith exploded in the first quarter of Game 5, he couldn’t make a basket in the next 33 minutes, paving the way for the Cavs to have a drought in scoring. Iman Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova also were not able to bring the help that James needed.

Game 6 of the NBA Finals would be great stand for the Cavs. Coach David Blatt has a decision to make when it comes to the playing time of Timofey Mosgov, who had 28 points in Game 4, but zero in Game 5. Will Blatt be standing firm to play big and not to match the small line up of the Warriors?
