Preview

The Golden State Warriors seek to alleviate the offensive attacks of Cavs LeBron James in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night at 9:00 PM ET.

Trailing 2-1 in the series, the Warriors look to play the entire 48 minutes defending and containing James in order for them to have a chance to break even. Though it would be a herculean task, coach Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors will be able to apply a scheme new to their oppoinents. To limit the production of James, who averages 41 points, 12 boards, and eight assists, is a must.

In addition, the Warriors have to play the whole entirety of Game 4. In Game 2 and 3 the Warriors, in double digit deficits, were chasing in the fourth quarter. In Game 2, they were able to force the into OT while in Game 3, they were able to cut into one. However, the results were two losses. Also, the Warriors have to provide more plays for Stephen Curry by allowing him to penetrate through the basket. This means the defense of the Cavs will swing inside and not crowding outside, which has been detrimental to the Warriors.

The Warriors need Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes to increase their production. During the three games NBA Finals, the duo are averaging 17.0 points combined, which is too low in comparison to the previous rounds in the playoffs. Both Green and Barnes have to assert themselves and allow the defenders to work hard against them.

The Cleveland Cavaliers understand that the Warriors will make certain adjustments, and that they have to play their best to win Game 4. James has been averaging 47 minutes for the Cavs and he has to be aggressive again to provide the necessary offense. Cleveland has been successful in those isolations, allowing James to do the damage. James might be scoring high but he is taking too many shots, 35.7 field goals per game in the NBA Finals.

Matthew Dellavedova will be playing for Game 4. He was dehydrated and brought to the hospital in Game 3 but he is ready to face Curry again. Dellavedova’s passion of the game was evident when he was diving for the loose balls. Aside from his defense, he also scored 20 points for the Cavs. Dellavedova has the task of guarding Warriors’ Curry throughout the series since Kyrie Irving went down in Game One overtime.

In terms of their big men, the Cavs are doing great with Tristan Thompson and Timofey Mosgov. Thompson is grabbing the rebounds with 14 per game while Mosgov is blocking the drives of the Warriors.
