Joel Villanueva resigns as TESDA Chief, aims a senate seat

Manila, Philippines – Secretary Joel Villanueva on Friday has resigned from his position as Director-General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Villanueva utilized his Twitter account posting a photo with TESDA staff before going to Malacanang Palace to submit his resignation to President Benigno Aquino III.

“Getting ready before heading to Malakanyang to submit my courtesy resignation. Maraming salamat PNoy!” his post read.


Villanueva on Tuesday announced his intention to run for a senate seat in the 2016 elections. In a gathering of more than 6,000 technical vocational trainees and graduates that was called “Scholar’s Day” at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, Villanueva offered his application to be a senator of the Philippines. Villanueva called himself “isang barista, nag-aapply po bilang kinatawan nyo sa senado.”

President Aquino was present to grace the event in which delagates came from National Capital Region, Region 3 (Central Luzon) and Region 4A (CaLaBaRZon).

The event themed “Pagpupugay sa mga Tesda Iskolar,” showcased the successful implementation of Tesda scholarship programs.

Villanueva’s declaration coincided with the birthday of his father of Bro. Eddie Villanueva, Founder of the Jesus Is Lord Church which has over four million members worldwide according to Wikipedia.
