Point guard Kyrie Irving pulled off a 15-point performance to lead the United States basketball team in a 94-91 victory over Serbia on Friday.
Irving once again showed to the world that he is matured enough and be a leader for Team USA. Irving also added four assists to facilitate the offense as the team survived a scare from Serbia i n the fourth quarter. Serbia outscored USA, 29-22, in the final period but it ran out of time for the Americans to capture the win.
Carmelo Anthony, Paul George, and Kevin Durant each scored 12 points to have a balance offensive attacks and distributions while DeAndre Jordan added 13 points coming from the bench.
Serbia’s Nikola Jovic surprisingly scored 25 points, and he was not even a starter. Jovic plays for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. Bogdan Bodanovi, who missed the potential tying 3-pointer, scores seven points. However, Miroslav Raduljica and Teodosic did most of the damage as they had 18 points each for Serbia.
USA was in control of the game even from the start with a 27-15 lead and 50-41 at halftime. Raduljica helped Serbia to cut the lead into nine with his 14 points at halftime.
While the United States enjoyed being on top, the Serbians were not satisfied in trailing a double-digit most of the time as they were able to cut the deficit through their three-pointers.
