The Rose Parade website beautifully defines the event as “festival of flowers, music and sports unequaled anywhere else in the world,”

Generally, the event is held on New Year’s Day, but this year brings some change counting the Parade’s longstanding. So “Never on Sunday rule” is being applied for 2017 because New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday.

If you are wondering what is “Never-On-Sunday” rule, then here is an explanation – Parade organizers say it started in 1893 and this was a rule imposed because the parade moved from churches where horses been tied up. The organizers didn’t want to trouble the horses and interrupt church services, so added this interesting “never-on-Sunday” rule” which was applied for Jan 1st 2017.

“to avoid frightening horses that would be hitched outside churches and thus interfering with worship services” according the website.

This year being a special one the theme is also extraordinary – “Echoes of Success,” and Olympians Greg Louganis, Janet Evans and Allyson Felix will be participating for the co-grand marshals on Monday. You will find many floats on display while 19 marching bands will be seen entertaining the parade festivities.

Polakowski is spending 10-hours shifts on decking floats out with eucalyptus leaves, cranberries, red carnations and more. All visible surfaces of the floats must be covered by some kind of plant, Polakowski said.

Be among the hundreds of thousands of spectators to experience the thrill of nature based products. However, if you are driving there then be aware that dozens of streets will be closed because of traffic and parking issues.
