Rumors on Tony Romo’s next team will swirl around the sports news, social medias, radio and television programs in the coming months until a football club acquire him.
Romo was moved out of the Cowboys starting roster when he incurred injury and his substitute Dak Presscot played great in the rest of the season, leading Dallas to the No. 1 seed in the NFC. He fall out of grace so to speak that the Cowboys are willing to release or trade. Absolutely, Romo’s going out of Dallas is imminent for he will not be content to be just a backup.
According to ESPN blog, the quarterback will be likely to be released than traded.
“Designating Romo as a post-June 1 release would cost the Cowboys only $10.7 million of their 2017 cap by allowing them to roll $8.9 million of Romo’s dead money over into 2018. If the Cowboys release him before June 1, though, it would cost them $19.6 million in cap space in 2017 alone.”
It is more viable for the Cowboys to release Romo for there might be no teams that could handle his contract. However, there are possible destinations for Romo that are willing to acquire him after being released.
The Denver Broncos were the first team to be rumored that are very interested on Romo. Denver was a game short in becoming a playoff team last season. With Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders ability to be flexible whoever the quarterback might be, the Broncos can immediately reap a harvest with Romo’s experience at the center.
Another team that desire to have a quarterback change would be the Houston Texans. Though the Texans went into the playoffs, the quarterback situation with Brock Osweiler didn’t make it happen to be deep in the playoffs. With a strong defense, the Texans just need a quarterback to light up their offense. However, will the Texans be able to work out on Romo’s contract while they still owe Osweiler’s big money?
Anther team that longs for a quarterback like Romo would be the Chicago Bears. The Bears are willing to part ways with Cutler who was far away from their expectations when they signed him from the Denver Broncos several years ago.
Teams like the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills are looking for an opportunity to get Romo. They are some of the teams that will make the chase for the quarterback.
