Jayson Castro scores 25 for Texters to dominate Bolts

The TNT Katropa Texters outlasted the Meralco Bolts, 102-84, through Jayson Castro’s 25 points to win Game One of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Monday night.

Castro showed his scoring ability as well as contributing six rebounds, seven assists and two blocks for the Texters to totally dominate the Bolts.

Import Joshua Smith, suffering from a burn stomach, added 19 points and grabbed three rebounds in 19 minutes of play coming from the bench. Moala Tautuaa had 13 points and eight rebounds to compliment for Katropa. Also, Kelly Williams added 10 points and seven rebounds.

“I think offensively we were just blessed to have contributions from almost everybody. That doesn’t normally happen,” said KaTropa coach Nash Racela.

“Defensively, we were decent today,” Racela added. “We made it hard for Meralco to make their shots. But we’re expecting them to make a lot of adjustments.”

Meralco rallied back in the third quarter by inching closer within three points but Tautuaa delivered his poise as well as RR Garcia helped exceedingly fininshing nine points.

Chris Newsome displayed his best form by scoring 21 points to lead the Bolts. Alex Stephenson scored nine points and plucked nine rebounds.

TNT and Meralco will have another collision in Game 2 on Wednesday night. The winner of this series will face the winner of the Ginebra vs GlobalPort series.
