Cabagnot’s triple-double lifts SMB to a victory

The San Miguel Beermen defeated the TNT Katropa Texters, 115-91, to capture the PBA Commissioners Cup title at Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.

Alex Cabagnot posted a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists to lead San Miguel in overpower TNT in Game 6, enough to close the series 4-2. Cabagnot averaged 20.3 points, eight rebounds and 5.8 assists in the Finals and named the PBA Press Corps-Cignal Finals MVP.

Import Charles Rhodes contributed with 30 points and 11 rebounds while Marcio Lassiter had 24 points. Arwind Santos came off the bench had 17 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, while Chris Ross contributed 14 points. The Beermen didn’t rely that much on bigman June Mar Fajardo who struggled in the game.

“TNT… brought out the best in us,” said SMB coach Leo Austria after their triumph. “Both of us deserved to win the championship, but we’re really fortunate, because my players really wanted to win. This is the Cup that we haven’t won in the last 17 years.”

Troy Rosario scored 21 points for the Texters but their problem of utilizing Joshua Smith to the max failed because of his production of 15 points and six rebounds. Smith only shot seven times. Jayson Castro scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Roger Pogo had 16 points for KaTropa.
