Instagram has reached a milestone of hitting 700 million monthly active users in two years. With the popularity of social media, Instagram is not left behind as it took only four months to add up 100 million users since attaining 600 million in December. Instagram’s speed in increasing users is remarkable fast the past four months in comparison to jumping from 500 million to 600 million which took six months.
Launched in October 6, 2010, Instagram took more 28 months to have its 100 million users. After 13 months from March 25, 2014, the social media giant garnered 200 million users. In 27 months, it reached to 500 million from December 10, 2014 to June 21, 2016.
In March 2012, Facebook purchased Instagram for $1 billion in cash and stock. Part of the plan would be to managed Instagram independently.
The number of Instagram users tells the world that it is becoming one of the most visited social media websites. Instagram is now more than twice the users of Twitter.
“Growth was driven by a number of factors, including our ability to better connect people with their friends on Instagram,” said a spokesperson of Instagram. “We also took steps to simplify and improve our sign-up process, which helped bring in new people from all over the world.”
Here’s part of the Instagram announcement of the achievement:
We’re thrilled to announce that our community has grown to more than 700 million Instagrammers. And the last 100 million of you joined faster than ever.
We’ve made it even easier for people across the globe to join the Instagram community, share their experiences and strengthen connections to their friends and passions.
